Keep it simple, stupid

A simple equation that explains why a public option is a horrible idea.

Health care reform + public option = private insurance companies go out of business =

You are forced to buy government insurance = There is no way out of complete government control over your life and well being!

If you have paid attention to the news lately, you have probably realized that our government is very inefficient and wasteful. Do you really trust them to make your health care decisions? A public option may well only affect a small number of people immediately. However, once private insurance companies go bankrupt from the low cost government insurance, you will be forced into this socialist program. Do not let them force you into anything! Why do people not realize that the "option" will only be temporary? Once all of the private insurance companies go under, you will be left with only one option, Uncle Sam. Remember this "A government that is big enough to give you everything you want is big enough to take everything you have."

That neat little "option"

It sounds pretty innocent, at least if you haven'te paid attention to the government for the past, let's say, fifty years. A public "option" for health care coverage. Sounds neat doesn't it? I mean, the word option implies that Americans would have the option of choosing government health care or sticking with their employer based or privately purchased health care. Americans would have a choice and choices are good. However, if you look closer at the health care bill that is about to his the floor of the congress, the "option" looks more and more like the fact that Oprah has the option not to scarf down three big macs for lunch. There is no option, let me explain. Under this proposed change to our health care system, you would have the initial option to buy the government coverage or stick with your privately owned or employer based coverage. However, if your policy exceeds the amount of coverage that the United States government thinks is necessary, they will tax you an additional 40% of that coverage if you choose to keep it. Let's keep it simple by assuming you have a policy that costs you five hundred dollars a month, or $6,000 dollars a year. You choose to keep that policy instead of switching over to the Obama care package that you are offered. Your policy, which costs you the $6,000 dollars last year will now cost you an additional 2,400 dollars, bringing the total to $8,400. If you have employer based health care coverage, your employer will have to either eat the additional costs, yeah right, or pass that cost down to you in the form of reduced coverage or higher premiums. Either way, you lose. If a business owner has 100 employess, the 40% tax would cost them an additonal 240,000 dollars per year. The option is pretty simple to the small business. Drop the coverage for your employees, which will force them into the government coverage, or pay the additional $240,000 and close your doors for good. This is exactly how our government works. They tell us there is an option, which, taken at face value, there is. However, by taxing existing coverage by 40%, they take the "option" right out of the public option. Let's assume that you buy your own 6,000 dollar coverage and have the choice of paying 8,400 dollars for the same coverage next year or switching over to a more affordable government plan. Which do you decide? The choice would be pretty easy and the government knows that. By artificially increeasing the prices of premiums in the form of a 40% tax, the government is basically forcing every working man and woman into their little socailist paradise that they like to call the public option. And then you become a statistic that the government will use to promote their other socialist policies. They will point to the fact that millions of Americans "chose" the government option and will use that to tell you government intervention is good. What they will forget to mention is the fact that the only option you had was to drop your existing coverage in exchange for being able to afford those pesky little things you call groceries. They have managed to trick us into this no win game of chess and we were stupid enough, again, to agree to the game in the first place. As is usually the case with our government, when we open the door just a little bit and think that we can have an honest debate with them, they always, and I mean always barge the door down and criticize those who dare to question their motives. Mark my word, America, if we let the United States government get involved in our health care business, we are not five years from being a socialist, government monopolized country that will not be able to climb out of the hole that we have dug. But we do have the "option" everyone and that makes me feel a lot better, you?

Gee, I can't wait!

We're almost there America! We have almost achieved the dream that those good hearted Democrats have been working on for sixty years!! National health care is within our grasps, and all we have to do is sit back and tell ourselves, yes we can! I don't know about you, but I look forward to the days when I can sit in a waiting room for hours on end reading three month old issues of National Geographic and watch all those precious little children scream at the top of their lungs. Before the Obama care bill passes though, there are a few things you should know about it, like.....
1. Credits for low to middle income wage earners, that will disbursed by your friendly government, will not start arriving until the year 2013. 2013 you ask? You got it, the government thinks that health care for everybody is so important that they are going to take three years just to get you, I mean your unemployed neighbor, the money, I mean your money to make it happen. Makes you wonder if there is another motive. Read on.
2. Tax increases and cuts in Medicare, yes cuts for Medicare are in the bill, will take effect immediately. Oh good, another government program that takes our money now and promises to give us something in the future! I love those programs!! You know, kind of like the social security payments that the people of my generation will never see! I can hardly hold my excitment in any longer. YES WE CAN!!
Just a second, I am singing a pro Obama song with my daughter.
3. OK, song is over, on we go. Why the immediate tax increases and Medicare cuts but the delayed benefits? Simple. By increasing the revenue that will be used for the health care for all program and delaying the benefits, the Democrats will be able to keep the program within the $900 billion limit. That tricky little fellow. My question is, how can all of these Democrats figure something of this magnitude out, but somehow get confused when using Turbo Tax? My good friend Wiecek is a tax guy, maybe he can answer that!! But the scary part to the three year wait is the exact reason that there will be a three year wait.........
The waiting period will give families time to save for the change. You know the change that I am talking about don't you, or do I have to say it out loud. OK, I'll say it, but off the record, right? OK, here it goes. I hope nobody has my computer tapped. It will give people time to prepare for the penalties that they will incure if they do not purchase coverage. Well, that's awfully nice of the government isn't it? A closer look will reveal the fact that those families who are going to incure a penalty under this bill will not have to pay that penalty until AFTER the 2014 midterm elections. But what are they scared of? Didn't they tell us that all of America wants this change? We wouldn't allow a pesky little fine from Uncle Sam determine who we vote for, would we? But remember, they have YOUR best intrest at heart, don't they?
Get ready America, for some good times ahead. I just hope that nobody grabs the February 2004 edition of National Geographic before I get there!!!
