Hope You Invest Wisely

They got a pay raise and all I got was this lousy recession. Congress should mail every American a T Shirt with that phrase screenprinted on the front, after they accepted a 4,700 dollar pay raise. That's right, every member of congress will make 4,700 dollars more next year. That adds up to a 2.5 million dollar expenditure for the tax payers in 2009. Isn't that nice? I am glad we can make the lives of those in congress a little easier. Now, if my thinking is correct, and the democrats are concerned with sharing the wealth, I am sure we will all be receiving a share of that raise in the mail. I can't wait to get mine! The fact that the "leaders" of our country would take such a substantial raise in pay amongst such horrid economic times should make you shudder. It takes all th talk of "change" and throws it out the window. For those of you that voted for "change," you've been duped. Congress has done absolutely nothing for the past four years and deserves a pay decrease, not an increase. Half of them should be fired, not receiving a "cost of living raise." This is just another sad example of how our leaders think. They could care less about getting the country back on the right track, but instead worry only about themselves! Kudos to Harry Mitchell, the Democratic Representative from Arizona, Dan Burton, the Republican Representative from Indiana and Gresham Barret, the Republican Representative from South Carolina for fighting this bill. They all fought the pay raise until the very end. However, with leaders like Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid, along with their band of yes men congressman and women, three honest congressman can only do so much. Thank you to those three and any others who spoke up about the injustices of such a pay raise. To those who advocated the raise, we will remember this when your election rolls around. Hope you invest wisely!

I Pray There Are No Shoes In Hell

It is an image that makes me angrier than I have been in a long time. Muntadhar al-Zeidi, an Iraqi "journalist," stands up and throws his shoes at the President of the United States. That's right, he took his shoes off and threw them at  a foreign leader during a farewell press conference. A couple of things that Mr. Muntadhar al-Zeidi may be interested in remembering; The person that you just threw your shoes at is the same man that made sure your country was freed from the dictatorial rule of Saddam Hussein. Had President Bush ignored and appeased Saddam, as his predecessor President Clinton did, you would not be writing your personal opinions in a newspaper. You would be writing exactly what the Iraqi government wanted you to write. President Bush sacrificed public approval to make sure that your country had a fighting chance in hell to achieve a democracy in which you could bask in newfound freedoms and civil rights. The action of one "man" takes all of the American sacrifices and stomps them into the mud. Several liberal leaning talking heads are comparing this ignorant journalist to Joe the plumber. Comparing a man who decides to throw their shoes at a person who presided over the freeing of a terrorist nation, to a person who calmly and politely asked a pertinent question on the campaign trail is quite a stretch. Even for the likes of Keith Olbermann. I guess, in the liberalist media's minds, the comparison is well deserved because they view Joe the plumber as a man who challenged what the media was spoon feeding us. He was a problem for the Democratic party. They view a shoe throwing journalist as a problem to the Republican party. The sad thing is the fact that the anger I feel when I watch this dispicable act replayed on television is not shared by all. I was not angry that the shoe was thrown at George W. Bush, but am angry that the shoe was thrown by an Iraqi journalist at an American. I guess that is the difference between our country and many other countries around the world. Our citizens will throw their lives at terrorists to try to make the world a safer place and in return citizens of those countries we are trying to make safer throw their shoes at us. The only gratitude that I get out of this story is the fact that I know there is a special place being reserved for Mr. Muntadhar al-Zeidiand and I pray that there are no shoes in hell. Have fun Mr. Muntadhar al-Zeidi, it has been nice knowing you!

Social Security Bailout Coming Soon.......To A Taxpayer Near You!!

The writing is on the wall, but the sad fact is that nobody seems to be reading it. Our current social security system is broken and none of our elected officials seem to be very serious about fixing the problem. For those of you who do not realize the current crises that our social security system is taking us into, let me explain it to you.

Our social security system currently takes in more money than it spends in benefits. That is the good news. The bad news is the fact that by the year 2017, just nine years from today, the system will be spending far more than it is taking in. The common sense question is as follows; If social security currently takes in more than it spends, and has since the inception date of 1935, surely the government has saved all of this extra cash so that we may avoid financial turmoil in the future, right? The common sense answer to that question would be, yes. However, as with most things entrusted to the federal government, common sense does not always prevail. This case is no different. The government, instead of saving all of this extra cash generated by yearly increases in the social security tax rate, chooses to spend the extra money on other government expenditures. That is right, you are paying taxes into the social security fund, but the government is taking the extra money out of that fund and spending it elsewhere. By the year 2014, the government will have "borrowed" three TRILLION dollars from the social security trust fund and not a single dollar will be left to pay for the benefits that the people are owed. Scared yet? You should be!  The only way to avoid the crises that inaction will bring is to allow individuals to invest a portion of their social security taxes into private accounts. These accounts would be held separate from the general social security fund and would be exempt from government borrowing. No one would be able to touch your money but you!  These private accounts would generate more wealth than the current retiree will benefit from, would generate guaranteed benefits and would allow the account holder to pass excess funds to their beneficiaries. Under the current system, returns are minimal, benefits are not guaranteed and funds cannot be passed down to future generations within your family. If we choose not to take this path of privatized accounts, there are three other options that we will have. These options are:
1. Cut federal spending by three trillion dollars. That idea was probably not even worth the time it took me to type.
2. Increase the national debt by another three trillion dollars. Our grandkids would be proud of us for that!
3. Increase the tax burden by 43,000 dollars on every American family. Yes, it is that serious!

The option is ours, and the least painful, most common sense approach would be to let the American people invest a portion of their tax dollars themselves. This crazy idea of a common sense solution was applauded by President Bush, which immediately led to the democrats opposition of such a simple solution. Had Barack Obama came up with the idea, he would have been a humanitarian. However, given the fact that I used "common sense" in the same sentence as "solution," any reasonable person would know that he did not come up with this idea. It is far too "common" and involved too much "sense" for him to comprehend, let alone devise this plan. Although this solution would entail the federal government biting the bullet and paying promised benefits to current and soon to be retirees, it would ensure that every working American would have a nest egg that the government could not touch. The up front costs of revamping the system would be far less than the price of doing nothing. Every year we wait, we make the fix that much more expensive and difficult to achieve. Failure to act swiftly will result in higher taxes and prolonged working years coupled with lower benefits upon retirement. Ahhhhh, our federal government at work, aren't you proud?

They forget to say thank you.......

It's hard to believe, but it has been exactly five years, as of today, that Saddam Hussein was captured by American military personnel. We have President Bush to thank, and left leaning ideologues to laugh at. The left was quick to pint out that we did not discover any weapons of mass destruction. They were furious that we were "lied" to by President Bush. They forget the fact that Saddam oversaw the murders and executions of millions of innocent people. Whether he was gassing the Kurds or killing Iraqi citizens for speaking out against his regime, Saddam would not tolerate those with opposing viewpoints. He would, literally, kill you! They forget the fact that he had plotted to assassinate former president Bush. Imagine the voices of the Democratic party if it was revealed that a foreign leader had plotted to assassinate Bill Clinton. There would be no patience or time for negotiation. They forget the fact that Saddam defied the United Nations weapons inspectors for years. We, mainly under Bill Clinton, would continue to give Saddam another chance. But this one is the last one, we mean it! They forget the fact that Saddam ruled his country through fear and intimidation. His forces raping wives in front of their husbands, killing children in front of their parents and denying any form of free speech. The citizens of his country were prisoners. Plain and simple. They forget the fact that the man was convicted of war crimes that resulted in him getting sentenced to death. Yeah, other people thought he was that bad as well! They forget all of these facts and many others as well. I simply do not have the time to write about all of the atrocities that Saddam Hussein was responsible for. Oh, and they forget one other thing. They forget to tell President Bush thank you. Thanks for ridding the world of a dictator who ruled by the sword. Thank you for making the world's future a little safer. Thank you for administering a major blow to the terrorist community. And, thank you for having the cahones to do what Bill Clinton was scared to do. Someday, when my grandchild  is sitting in history class, she will read about an American president who stood up to terrorists around the world and did what he had to do to make the world safer, regardless of what his political opponents said.  She will read about this president and will appreciate what the man did for us. Thank you George Bush. Our country and the world owe you!

Unfortunate Reality

Make your plans now. Make sure that you reserve a date, in the near future, to visit Governor Rod Blagojevich in federal prison. It would be nice for everybody who has been "served" by Roddy, as the governor of Illinois, to show our appreciation to the man by stopping by his cell on our next visits to the federal pens. The only unfortunate reality of his almost certain prison time is the fact that the taxpayers will continue to pay the bill for his comfort food and recreational yard time he will receive in the prison. The fact that he is being accused of trying to sell a senate seat, reports are coming in that the highest bidder was probably going to be Jesse Jackson Jr, is only paled in comparison to the fact that the American citizens have let this type of crap happen. We continue to hold our elected officials to a low standard of productivity. We continue to allow a non transparent government to shape our laws and regulations. We continue to let the greedy spend our tax dollars without justification and we act like we are surprised when stuff like this happens. It scares me to think that this corrupt act by Governor Blagojevich will pass, with time, and no new standard will be set by the American people. We have to tell our officials that we are sick and tired of this "same old political" circus. If you watch the news programs, read the newspapers and listen to what is happening in our very own government, you have the duty to call and write your officials to tell them what you think. To do anything less than that is to tell our leaders that the issues are not a big deal to you. When will we, the people, realize that things like this are happening because we are letting it happen. We must stand up and stop them in their greedy tracks. We must voice our opinion, no matter how many people disagree with us and must continue to pressure our leaders to adopt a more transparent form of governing. THEY WORK FOR US. We are their bosses and can fire them from their positions every time we walk into that voting booth. If you acted in such a greedy, dishonest way at your current place of employment, you would not be the least bit shocked when you were summonsed into the bosses office to sign your pink slip. We should hold our government officials to the same standard of accountability. It's the only way we are going to get ourselves out of this free for all, pay to play form of government we have gotten ourselves into. Mr. Blagojevich says that he has no plans on resigning his position of governor of Illinois. To him I say, that's fine, we have made the plans for you, sir. Here is your pink slip!

Reflection of George W. Bush

It's hard to beleive that it has already been eight years. Many look back upon the past eight years and scoff at the results of President George W. Bush. I, however, take a look that is a bit deeper and more appreciative of what he has done for our country. Aside from a couple of disagreements and disappointments in what he has done for us the past eight years, most of my reflection is positive.

What George did wrong:
1. Creation and enactment of the U.S Patriot Act. Although the Patriot Act seemed like a necessary evil in our war on terror, I think that this act went a bit too far in granting the government power over the people of the United States. This act paves the way for increased surveillance and an increased access to our communication and financial records. This act even gave the government the right to access your library records. The main thing that conservatives say is "if you have nothing to hide, then what is the big deal?" While I maintain the position that I would not mind such intrusion into my communication and financial records, the door has been opened for a more oppressive United States leader to take advantage of this "necessary evil." The government, if they wanted to, can now monitor your bank statements and library records on a daily basis. They could, in essence, know everything that you are reading and buying. We have given them the "right" to erect cameras on nearly every street corner and are being videotaped nearly everyday, at some point. The thing that scares me the most about the passage of this act is how quickly the American people were forced into giving up many of their civil liberties and their freedom of privacy. There was very little debate preceding the passage of the Patriot Act. In fact, the House of Representative passed the bill in less than forty-eight hours after it was proposed. The American people knew little, if anything at all, about the bill before it was passed. Bad boy, George, bad!

2. Lost passion for restructuring of Social Security. While he was running for the highest office in the land, George W. maintained that social security needed reforming and he was the man to do it. He supported privatizing portions of people's social security to ensure that everyone who paid into the system would have at least a little nest egg to fall back upon during retirement. This was one of the biggest reasons that I initially voted for Bush and continues to be one of the most disappointing aspects of his Presidency. Even if it would not have passed in congress, I expected President Bush to continue to educate the people of this country on the negative points concerning Social Security. You know, something like, our current social security system will be insolvent by the year 2041. Or, the number of taxpayers per retiree is currently three to one, but by 2030, that number will shrink to 2-1. The number will continue to shrink until the number of retirees exceeds the number of taxpayers. The system is broken and George vowed to fix it. Mission Unaccomplished. Bad George, Bad!

What George did right;

1. Kept us safe from additional terrorist attacks on our home soil. This is a fact that most people fail to recognize and appreciate. I do not think that the American people recognize how hard this probably was to accomplish. Unfortunately, we may soon realize the difficulty of this task. After 9-11, we were at risk for a complete destruction of our country and democracy. George W. stood up and showed the world what the United States thought about terrorism. He took action that shocked the world and sent a very strong message to any terrorist organization that contemplated attacks on Americans. You hit us, we will hit you harder and for a longer period of time. I admire the fact that President Bush held his opinions and beliefs of American protection to a high standard and would not let the naysayers  talk him down. I think that history will reflect the fact  that had Al Gore or John Kerry been in office from 2000-2008, we could all be living in a very oppressive, terrorist ruled country. George Bush didn't care what the news media had to say. He was going to protect our country, no matter what! That a boy George!!

2. Defining the countries of Iraq, Iran and North Korea as the Axis of Evil:

During his state of the union speech, on January 29, 2002, George Bush told Iraq, Iran and North Korea that they had just been enshrined into a new club. The Axis Of Evil. To the average person, this was probably just George Bush talking through his cowboy mouth. To me, it sent a different message. To me, this remark relayed the messgae that I had voted for a person that was not afraid to say what was on his mind. He did not care about being politically correct, if it meant bringing terrorist dictatorships to the forefront of the American people's minds. He wanted to let the American people know that even after our current battles had been won, there were still other countries that threatened our freedoms and safety. To the three countries that he labeled as the axis of evil, President Bush was saying that they were on our radar. Shape up or we will shape you up. He hated that fact the a few countries could threaten the world and was letting them know that he and his administration were watching, very closely. His brash, unapologetic language went a long way in solidifying his tough stance on terrorist countries. I think it is no coincidence that this brash language was accompanied by the fact that we have not been attacked since 9-11. The terrorist know where the United States stands on the terrorism issues under George W. Bush and dare not cross the line. Let's hope that future administrations will keep that line in the sand. If not, the crossing of that line is inevitable!

Summary:
The past eight years have not been perfect. We have had a roller coaster economy, bankruptcy of major companies, skyrocketing oil and gas prices and an overall hatred of the war in Iraq. That being said, isn't it marvelous that we live in a country whose leader will stand up for what is right and will let dictatorships and terrorists know that they are not respected in our country. Neither they nor their terrorist ideas are welcome here and if they dare attack us, we will defend. Thank you, Presdient Bush, for instilling moral and ethical standards back into the White House. Our country is safer because of you. Someday, we will all recognize that fact!

Giving Thanks

Thanksgiving is over now, and I have had time to reflect on all that I am thankful of. My mind instantly drifts to the time I spent living with my mom and dad. I have always had a pretty good life. I was able to spend my entire childhood growing up with two parents that loved each other dearly. My mom and dad are an excellent example of what marriage is really about. Helping each other through the tough times in the lives of one another and always showing love to their children. The love that they showed me and my two sisters was not an endless supply of money, but was instead a steady homelife. Dad would work countless hours either on the road or at the office to provide all of the necessities to his family. We all didn't get brand new cars when we turned sixteen, but instead we were given approximately twenty one years of common sense, compassion for your neighbor, hard work and honesty will get you where you need to go education. I guess you could call it the Stratford Drive University. I am proud to be an alumni! Now, don't get me wrong. I didn't always agree with the course of study that my parents laid out in front of me. In fact, I usually found a way to argue just about every one of them. I did not understand why I could not have a free car when I turned sixteen. I did not understand why I was not allowed to stay out without my parents knowing where I was going. And, I certainly did not understand why my father ever let my little sister start dating. I still vow, to this day, that my daughter will be single until she is retired. My two sisters taught me that looking out for someone else was part of everybody's duty as an honest person. Whether it was picking up my little sister and driving her home when I saw her walking down the street with a boy, or talking to my older sister when times got tough for one of us. My little sister gave me a reason to be a big brother and my older sister gave me a reason to be a little brother seeking advice. My mother taught me that  patience is a virtue when you are a parent. I still cannot beleive that I made it all the way through college without her knocking any of my teeth out. It's not that she didn't want to I am sure. It's simply that making your point through  virtue gets you further. I can still remember as if it were yesterday, walking out of the hospital room after my daughter was born. Simply out of instinct, I walked straight to my mom and dad, hugged them and bawled on their shoulders like a little baby. It says a lot about the bond between parent and child when a moment like that, in front of several people, just seemed like the natural thing to do. To this day, I still say I love you to my mom and dad as well as my two sisters. The words are not simply protocol. We mean it! To my mom: Thank you for being an example to me in days past and future. I admire your strong will and convictions. I love the fact that you don't always have to have the most expensive pleasures in life and admire you like you will never know. I love the fact that you could get ready for work, even though I was asleep in front of the heater on the bathroom floor. Most of all, thank you for raising me with enough patience so that I may also raise my children with a steady hand. I could not have asked for a better mom. Even though you ran onto the field during one of my flag football games! Oh, and one more thing, thank you for acting like you enjoyed it when I made you that nasty looking homeade ash tray. I cannot beleive that was actually a grade school project! To my dad: Thank you for teaching me what a dad is supposed to do. Nothing should be given without certain sacrafices. It was a lesson that will pay dividends for my entire life. Thank you for instilling in me the lesson that everything is attainable through hard work. You have given me a leg up in today's world becasue of your example. Thank you for showing me how to love your wife. Thank you for talking to me when I was having some pretty challenging times. Your advice was priceless and that meant more to me than I have ever told you! You are a great example to go by dad, and I am proud to call you dad. Oh, and one more thing, thank you for  teaching me that it is ok to sleep with your own brother on the couch. George, scoot over. To my two sisters: Oh boy, here we go. You guys are great! I love the fact that you two had to share a 6 by 10 bedroom while I got to hang out in my 6 by 11 bachelor pad. I often think back to the days of passing messages to each other's room with a coat hanger. I enjoyed silly stringing your room and will never forget family band practice. Mel playing the saxaphone, trying to impress that "Fat Matt" guy and me blowing as hard as I could so mom would just tell me to stop. Denise, I absolutely loved embarassing you as much as I could during our high school career. I though that if I could embarass you enough, maybe the boys would just stay away! Mel, you were always so generous to me. You would always let me pick any item out of your room if I would simply leave. Boy, you taught me! Oh, by the way Denise, you do not give the right away to somebody who is in the turn lane on a highway! I love you all!

What are we becoming?

As you all probably know, I work for Wal-Mart, and have for about eight years now. Today was the seventh "black friday" that I have been associated with. We all know what the day entails. Long lines at the checkouts, customer showing up at three in the morning to snag that all important gift, and throngs of people trying to make sure that their children or grandchildren get that gift from Santa that will change their life forever. However, this year revealed an even deeper meaning to this day for me. Greed and absolute disregard for other people. For me, the day started at three thirty in the morning. I got up, running late as usual, and sped away to the store to make sure I was there in time to witness the chaos. Upon arriving at the store, I was greeted by about 200 people standing outside, smoking their cigarettes and trading war storeis of blitz days of their past. Upon entering the store, hundreds , and I mean hundreds of customers greeted me with "Do you know where this is at?" And "How many of these do you have?" Giving polite answers, as always, I made my way to the offices that are located in the back of the store, made sure that all of the plans had been executed the night before, and dug in for what was to become the most depressing day of my career. At five minutes past five oclock in the mornng, just five minuted into the biggest sales day of the year, word came over my earpiece that there was a fight in the electronics department over an XBOX 360. That's right, a physical altercation over a video game! I thought that I would arrive at the scene and see two crazed idiots fighting over this silly game. Boy was I wrong. When I showed up, I found out the chilling details of what had actually happened. A lady, approximately sixty years of age had picked up the prized XBOX console and was promptly shoved onto the floor by a lady in her mid twenties. The young lady then took the game out of the older ladies hand and handed it to her friend. She then grabbed her purse up off the floor and continued to shop. Sad but true story. This older lady was simply trying to get the game, in an honest and respectful manner, and was physically thrown to the floor. The older lady regained her composure, stood up and continued her shopping. Outrageous! Is this really what we have become? Are we really that driven by greed that we would push someone to the ground so that we would be able to buy a video game? If only we cared about other people as much as we cared about oursleves! I guess, at the end of the day, the younger lady won the battle over the XBOX 360. My only hope is that when her child opens up that precious gift from mommy on Christmas morning, her childs joy will weigh heavily on his or her mother. The lengths that she went through to get the gift were totally uncalled for. Every time her child plays that game, I hope that the mother will not be able to get the thought of herself, pushing an elderly lady to the ground and snatching a game from the hands that were too busy bracing herself for the fall, out of her mind. This victim chose to protect her safety instead of the game. I only wish that we all could protect our honor and image more than we protect our worldly possesions and desires. I hope that little old lady falling to the floor haunts this bully for the rest of her life! Unfortunately, I know the image will be burned in my mind forever.

Auto Industry Bailout

At what point and under what circumstances does the government owe it to a private sector company to bail them out from financial turmoil? Never! When the government starts to pump money into the businesses of the private sector, they are ignoring the fact that the consumers have already spoken. If a business makes decisions that render them unable to compete in today's market, that is just the way it goes. The business has to make the decision to either make changes that will enable it to compete in the market or can simply close down shop. It is harsh, I know, but it is simply the way life goes. Or at least is the way life used to go. While I do feel sorry for the people that will lose their jobs if the automobile industry fails, life does not guarantee no pitfalls in your journey through it. If we decide to bail out every business that is on the brink of bankruptcy, how will we ever make progressions as a society? The automobile industry has continued to manufacture vehicles that are inefficient when it comes to fuel efficiency and dependence. If the auto industry is not allowed to suffer for their bad business practices, why would they ever make the decision to produce vehicles that the consumer wants to buy? Let's take this philosophy and apply it to another industry. If a burger joint makes a burger that nobody likes to eat, should we give them taxpayer's dollars to make sure that they stay open for the business that they do not receive? Of course not. The burger joint can either produce food that people will pay money to eat or they can close. Simple as that. The consumer "votes" everyday with their dollars. They decide to spend their votes at places that provide good service and great products! As far as the auto industry is concerned, the consumer has decided that they do not want to spend their money on gas guzzling vehicles. They want vehicles that are fuel efficient, safe and come with a decent price tag. Ford, Chrysler, and GM could not or would not provide that, so the consumer bought from someone else. They, in essence, voted with their money and the results of that vote have just came in. To Ford, Chrysler and GM; Produce a vehicle with excellent MPG or one that runs on an alternative source of energy. If not, we will continue to take our dollars elsewhere. At least the dollars that the federal government lets us keep!

"It's just not fair!"

The other day at work, I got into a heated political discussion. Not wise, I know, but sometimes I just cannot resist! I was asking a lady why she felt compelled to vote for Barack Obama. Her response was typical. She went on to tell me that the economy under George W. Bush was absolutely horrible and that is was becoming difficult for her to make her monthly mortgage payment. She was being squeezed by the bill collectors and felt that Barack Obama was the answer. I found that throughout this past election, a response similar to hers was scary, but common none the less. She felt the economy was bad because CNN told her it was bad. I asked two simple questions, gave her one opinion I had of her situation, and left the room leaving her unable to argue her point any longer. My two questions go out to anybody who agrees with her line of thinking.
      1. Are you making less money now than you were under President Clinton? Her answer was no. If, her answer was yes, the answer to that problem would probably lie at the feet of her own personal decisions. Whether that decision be a career change or a change of position within the same company. Most workers are not forced to take a reduction in pay if they stay in the same position with the same company. If they made a personal decision that resulted in a pay cut, they have simply made a bad financial decision. Oops!
      2. Has your house payment increased under President Bush? Her answer was no. Had the answer to this question been yes, the problem could, once again, be traced to personal decisions. Her payment could have gone up if she had decided to take out an Adjustable Rate Mortgage when she purchased her home. If that was the case, she made the decision and should have to deal with it herself.
After I got my questions answered, I weighed in with my opinion. Insert foot here. I told her that her own personal economy was better under George Bush than it was under Bill Clinton. After all, she was making more money. I followed that by telling her Barack Obama was not the answer to her financial problems. She had simply purchased a home that she could not afford. She had three options. Keep paying the mortgage and eliminate wasteful spending, sell her house and buy something more affordable, or get a second source of income to solve her financial problems. While the solutions I laid out in front of her seemed common sense to me, to her they were ridiculous. Why should she have to pay for the bad decisions she made in her life? It's a question that too many Americans are asking themselves these days! It seems easier to blame the government for our own decisions. It is an excuse and is also the reason that our country is going down the slippery slope that were are traveling. The liberals of this country have got to start speaking straight to the country and quit trying to appease everybody. Make a bad decsion, pay for making said bad decision. It is as easy as that!!! Oops, did I say all of this out loud?

Most Dems Probably Do Not Remember.......Let's Remind Them!

The staple belief in most democrats circle of friends is the fact that we should pull our troops out of Iraq as soon as possible. They believe, and hope, that President elect Obama should put a timeline for withdraw on the United States military as soon as possible. Let's not get into the national security threat that this would pose to our country. Let's not talk about what a waste of time, money and life the Iraq war would become if we did so. Let's not talk about what a blow to the future of the world this would be. No, let's not talk about those things, because the conservatives and liberals will never agree on those points. We would be wasting our breath to talk about such things. Instead, let focus on what Senator Obama and some of the people that will be serving in his soon to be assembled cabinet have said about a timeline for withdraw. We'll start with President Elect Obama.
On June sixth, 2006, then Senator Obama was quoted as saying, "A hard, fast, arbitrary deadline for withdrawal offers our commanders in the field and our diplomats in the region insufficient flexibility to implement that strategy." I read that as saying, if we set a deadline for withdrawal, our commanders and diplomats in that region become powerless in fighting the war. We all want out of Iraq, but we all want to win the war first. By setting a deadline for withdrawal, we may be increasing the chances that we do not give them enough time to come out of the war victorious. For once, way back in 2006, I can honestly say I agreed with Barack Obama. I think I'll have a t-shirt made to commemorate the occasion.
Quite possibly our next Secretary of State, Senator Hillary Clinton was quoted on September 22, 2005 as saying, "I don't believe it's smart to set a date for withdrawal. I don't think you should ever telegraph your intentions to the enemy so they can await you." Absolutely brilliant Senator Clinton. These Democrats are really smart, aren't they?
Our current Vice President elect, Senator Joe Biden said on June 21, 2005 that "A deadline for pulling out will only encourage our enemies to wait us out. It would be a Lebanon 1985, and God only knows where it goes from there." You mean that if we set a deadline for withdrawal, our enemies would wait us out? They wouldn't just let us win the war so that we could be back home by the time our deadline was reached? Man, I thought the Islamic extremists were nicer than that!
Our current Senate Majority Leader, Harrry Reid was quoted on January 31, 2005, when he said that "As far as setting a timeline....that's not a wise decision, because it only empowers those who don't want us there." Come on Harry, are you sure? You're telling me that if we set a date for withdrawal, our enemies will feel a sense of winning the war? That's crazy! Surely Americans will think we have won the war if we pull all of the troops out of the region prematurely, wouldn't they?
So, there you have it. Real quotes from the soon to be Barack Obama administration. Real quotes that came out of these peoples mouths. You cannot argue them, debate them or even try to misinterpret them. They are real words and ideas. All you can do is remind them of these quotes when they try to set a deadline for withdrawal in Iraq! Wake up people and stop voting for artificial slogans such as "CHANGE." Vote on the issues and vote for what our politicians actually stand for.

Mr. Obama and Guantanamo Bay; What is he thinking?

President elect Obama says that he wants to shut down the controversial terrorist detention camp, Guantanamo Bay, and bring all of the suspected terrorist to the United States to face justice. My initial reaction is simple. Are you kidding me? Unfortunately, he is not kidding us. He really wants to do it, and my guess is he will do it. Maybe I am just too simple minded, but I can see no possible good coming out of transporting 250 suspected terrorists, who hate America, into the United States. That would be like bringing Osama Bin Laden into the United States so that we could talk to him. Why do it? It makes no sense. He wants to take terrorists, who want to kill us, and bring them into the United States so that we can house them in our own jails? We can't even create the room necessary to house our own criminlals, let alone foreign terrorist criminals. Why give them the opportunity to breathe U.S air? Why give them the opportunity to spread their idiotic rhetoric in our own country? Keeep them in Cuba, where the only Americans they come in contact with are armed military personell who have been mentally and physically trained to deal with them. This is a classic case of what is to come. Mr. Obama is simply appeasing his left wing counterparts. The issue is very simple, I think. Why would you want to bring murderers and terrorits into the country? We already have enough of them amongst us as it is. Why add more confusion and trouble to the situation that has caused us so much pain in the first place? He wants to make sure that the terrorists get a fair shot at justice. Yeah, Mr. Obama, whatever.

The democrats version of hypocrisy

Is the current democratic party that is pushing for a multi billion dollar bailout of the automobile industry the same party that was criticizing the republican party for "catering" to big business? Why is it such a bad idea to let big business save their own money, via lower taxes, but it is such a great idea to hand big business billions of dollars in tax money? We will wait for an informative answer Speaker Pelosi. I have a weird feeling we will be waiting for awhile! To me, the answer is pretty simple. The government, when ran by the liberal democratic party, wants to make as many individuals and corporations as possible dependant on the government for money! If we would lower the tax burden on corporations, which in this country is among the highest corporate tax rate in the world, we would be allowing these big corporations to save more of their own money and would not have to give them taxpayers hard earned cash! Seems like a common sense approach, doesn't it? Pelosi says no to tax cuts for the corporate world, but wants to say yes to a multi billion dollar bailout to those exact same corporations. Get real you left wing zealots. Get real!

They won with our message

The democratic party won the white house, but did so campaigning a message of conservative ideas. President elect Obama touted his redistribution of wealth idea as a tax cut for 95 percent of working Americans. Even though the numbers can be disputed quite easily, the idea of a "tax cut" is a conservative soapbox. That is what we stand for. Lowering taxes on Americans. The only problem is, taxes should be lowered on everybody. Mr. Obama cleverly depicted a tax program that would lower taxes on 95 percent of Americans. What he fails to mention is the fact that the other five percent of Americans are the people that the 95 percent work for. They provide our paychecks, health care and 401 K or pension plans. I don't know about you, but I want my boss to have as much extra cash as possible so that I have a decent chance of getting a raise this year. Make employers pay millions of additional tax dollars and you create a system that stymies growth, prevents the hiring of additional workers, lowers the amount of employee paid health care and lowers or eliminates the chances of employees getting an annual raise. Add to the fact that businesses will raise prices on goods and services to make up for this additional tax, and the individual consumer ends up paying for that tax hike on the corporations. Individual consumers, you know, the 95 percent of working Americans. And he packages this as a TAX CUT. Even worse than that, the American people bought it! The silver lining? When it comes to most issues, the country is still a middle right society. Our country still understands that conservative, traditional values are beneficial to our society. That said, we as republicans must do a better job of selling our beliefs to the public. We must get more aggressive when it comes to promoting our policies, ideas and beliefs. We are going up against a party that understands the role of conservatism in our democracy and will do anything to wrap their liberal ideas in a conservative wrapper. Consumers beware. Make sure you read the ingredients list on the back of that wrapper. You may be biting off more than you can chew! To win tha battle against this wolf in sheeps clothing, we must get back to our conservative foundation. Get back to what made us right in the first place. Quick example of how far we have strayed in the republican party are these multi billion dollar bailout packages. What happened to the idea of a free market? The business should dictate whether success or failure is accomplished, not the government. If Ford and GM cannot be competitive, intuitive or inventive enough to survive in today's economy, why should they survive? If a bank is failing because they made thousands of bad loans, why should they remain in business? The government loaning these companies money in return for a stake in the business is dangerous territory that this country would be wise to stay away from. Do you really want the government running our automobile and banking indusrty? If so, what is next? Our newspapers, television stations, grocery stores and gas stations? Can you imagine the possible consequences if we allow this to happen? As conservatives, we must refer back to our tradition that has made our cause so successful. Less government involovement and more personal responsibility. To Ford and GM, sorry about your misfortune. Learn to make your companies better and more successful in our changing world. To conservatives, a free market works if you let it. Do not be tempted to let the government get involved in the private sector. If we do, we will regret it down the road. Let's get back to the basics of personal responsibility, personal desire and personal success. The idea made us great in the past and can make us great again in the future, as long as we package it RIGHT!

Everyone should be entitled to............

All Americans should live under a government that provides entitlements to all of its citizens. Now, before you think that I have lost my mind and am contradicting my very strong beliefs, let me explain. The government should entitle its citizens to a free and safe society. That means that every once in a while, we must stand up to regimes that may pose a threat to our safety. The war in Afghanistan and Iraq are perfect examples of the government honoring this entitlement. Afghanistan was the home of Al Qaeda and Iraq is smack dab in the middle of our world's oil fields. Americans are very dependent on oil, as we all know, which puts Iraq in a definite position of power over us. The Iraqi regime knew and knows that we need their oil and thought that we would do anything not to upset them. Guess what, they were wrong. An Iraqi country that is run under a form of democracy would be much more beneficial to us than an Iraq that rules through a form of dictatorship. The only way that we should pull out of Iraq is if we can come up with a form of alternative energy. Even then, I believe, we owe it to the innocent Iraqi people to finish the current war we have started and to help them as much as we can. We are the most prominent super power in the world, and must do everything in our power to stop genocide whenever and wherever it occurs. To break it down into simple terms, if you came home from work one evening and your neighbor was beating his child in their front yard, should you not stand up and do something about it? Of course you should! You have an ability to stop the beating while the child does not. To walk inside your home and do nothing would be wrong. Saddam killed millions of innocent people in the comfort of his own backyard. The United States saw it and reacted as anybody with any sense of morality should have. Add the morality factor and the fact that we have a lot of oil at stake in Iraq and you have the making of a noble cause, both to the Iraqi people and the people of the United States. If an Iraqi dictatorship were to cut us off from their oil, they would put our country in a definite position of weakness. We would be very vulnerable and would be at risk for another attack. The war in Iraq had much more to do with our own national security than most people realize. Totalitarian regimes pose a threat to the world, and therefore, to the United States as well. It's like a form of cancer. Kill the cancer or let the cancer kill you.
Another entitlement that the government of the United States should guarantee every citizen is an opportunity to succeed. Every child should have the right to a quality early education and should then be given the opportunity to attend a college or university. Last time I checked, the United States does not deny access to education for racial, spiritual, economic or gender based reasons. If you want to go to college, you can. Now, this is where the argument gets all of the liberals in a tizzy. The government should give you opportunity, and that's it! What you do with the opportunity is up to you. Personal story. Growing up, my parents weren't rich. We didn't live any better than the family next door. My mom and dad kept food on the table and kept a roof over our heads. Thank you mom and dad. When it came time for me to go to college, my parents could not afford to simply cut a check to Eastern Illinois University, so off I went to the financial aid office. The aid was not free money. I got a government loan so that I could get the education I wanted. I appreciate the government giving me the opportunity to attend a university and will continue to make my monthly payments until they are paid back in full. They gave me the opportunity, I took it, and will work hard to pay them back. End of story. The United States government should not be there to provide a handout to everyone that needs them. They should help people get where they want to go, but the people must meet them half way. Providing for someone who does not want to provide for himself or herself is pointless. A government that hands money out hand over fist will simply promote people to lose ambition and desire. Once that flame of desire goes out in this country, we are in trouble.
Safety and opportunity, that's what the government owes us. Without those two things, we could not and would not be able to function as a country. We cannot defend ourselves from terrorist organizations alone, so we must depend on the government to do that for us. We must also be allowed to compete on an even playing field. The government should ensure that everybody has the same opportunity and should then get out of the way. That is how you breed competitiveness and ingenuity. A kid who grew up poor can become rich if he or she works hard enough. Give that poor kid a welfare check every month and he is likely never going to have any desire to make his situation any better. It's time to wake up people, and do everything in your power to be the best you can be. The opportunity is yours, do what you want with it!!
